Obituary of Robert L Leyburn
Robert Linton Leyburn Jr. passed away on Friday, April 12th at his home, Lime Spring Farm, in Asbury, New Jersey at the age of 89. He was together with his wife of 63 years, Anna Mae, as well as his three daughters.
Leyburn was born in Philadelphia on November 1, 1929 and attended Havertown High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army. In 1952, Leyburn graduated from Penn State University with a degree in journalism and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. While at Penn State, he was Advertising Sales Manager for The Daily Collegian and Promotion Manager for the campus literary magazine The Inkling.
For much of his career, Robert Leyburn was with McGraw Hills Publishing Company where he was publisher of Fleet Owner Magazine, National Petroleum News Magazine and Vice President of Circulation.
Later he was Executive Vice President of Landon Associates. While at Landon, Leyburn was creator and publisher of the highly successful college recruitment magazine Private Colleges and Universities.
Leyburn enjoyed life on Lime Spring Farm for over 50 years. During much of that time he commuted to New York City. He also raised Hereford cattle and enjoyed farming the land together with local farmers. Leyburn was also a 40 year Penn State Football ticket holder and a life-long fan. In later years, he was a hospice volunteer and member of the church choir.
Robert Leyburn's ashes will be interred at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwood, PA. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Anna Mae Zimmerman, his daughters Lizanne Witte, Judy Cogan, Janette Gallagher and eight grandchildren.
On Saturday May 18th, Visitation will be held at Lime Spring Farm, Asbury NJ at 12:00 noon followed by a Memorial Service on the farm at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be make to the First Presbyterian Church, Washington, NJ for their choir fund.
