Obituary of Arthur R Johnson
Arthur R. Johnson, 94, formerly of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA.
Arthor was born in Bound Brook, NJ on November 16, 1930 to the late John Robert and Zella (Freeman) Johnson. Art grew up in Warren, NJ and graduated from Bound Brook High School class of 1948. He was a farmer all of his life. He was one of the founding organizers of the Somerset County 4-H Club. He would arrange truckloads of Christmas wreaths to be shipped from Maine to NJ for the annual 4-H fundraisers. He was also a booster club member and a big supporter of all sports for Bridgewater Raritan High School. Art was also a member and past Chief of the Mount Horeb Fire department in Warren Township and the Bethel Fire Department. He loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter in NJ and Maine. Arthur's loving wife, of 69 years, Esther Elaine Johnson passed away in 2020.
Arthur is survived by his children, John Robert Johnson (Laura), Betty Jane Charbonneau (Richard), Marilyn Montesano (Al) and Linda Anema; 14 grandchildren, EJ, Matthew, Stephanie, Kelly, Amy, Danielle, Corrina, Kristen, Michael, Robbie, Erika, Malissa, Vicky and Jennifer. 15 great-grandchildren, Addy, Greyson, Afton, Dylan, Jude, Ophelia, Gianna, Aiden, Haleigh, Michael, Emily, Hayes, Jeffrey, Wells and Sedona and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife, Arthur was preceded in death by a son, Edward Johnson, a grandson Jeffery Charbonneau; brothers, John, Robert and Charles and a sister Zella and a son in law Michael Anema.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday December 28, 2024 from 9:30 AM – 11 AM at the Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Rd., Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Arthur's life will begin at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Mount Horeb Methodist Church Cemetery in Warren NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur's name to the Valerie Fund, 100 Madison Ave. Morristown, NJ. 07960 OR Teen Challenge, 33 Teen Challenge Rd., Rehrersburg, PA 19550.
