I never had class with Kathryn but I would always see her in the cafe and we would chat for a while. In our first encounter, she stopped me to tell me how beautiful my outfit was. She always made me feel so beautiful even though I did not feel that inside. She was so kind and bright, like sunshine. I am so saddened to hear about her passing. Her memory will always be in kindness and her presence on this earth did not go unnoticed. Thank you Kat for being so kind to me. I promise to give others the same kindness you gave me <3.

I knew Kathryn for one year at North Hunterdon and one of my most memorable students. I remember every encounter with her. Whether we ran into each other in the hallway, cafeteria or in my office, she always fit in a joke. Kathryn always had the biggest smile on her face no matter what kind of day she was having. It was more important to her to brighten up your day. Kathryn always was so positive and optimistic about life. She spread her joy and genuine care for others all the time. I am thankful to have met her and hope her light shines through every person that she has touched along her journey. My deepest sympathies go out to her family and friends. Sending my love during this time.

I find myself struggling to find what words I can even say in this devastating grief. I was so amazingly blessed to be Kathryn’s best friend and spend so many years together between highschool and TCNJ. From North to Norsworthy, we’ve had quite the adventure of growing up. I hold so many memories of us on campus, facetiming, crafting, and just hanging out soaking in sunshine that I can’t pick one to share. But the best times were always the small moments, the times where we were just hanging out. Kathryn always preferred the every-day small moments, where we could just enjoy each other’s company. We must’ve painted something every time I would visit her house. From canvas to bags to rocks and seashells, all that mattered was spending time together sharing our love of art. She was the Card and Scrapbook Queen, afterall. And if it was only a Disney movie day (or a This Is Us binge-watch), she made sure to show off the new organization or additions to her impressive crafting desk. Other days, we would watch Disney movies, play Scrabble or Uno (where she somehow always won), or just hang out in our dorm rooms, in the halls, in Eick, or just outside, taking in how beautiful campus is.
Kindness and Kathryn are synonymous for me. I used to say she was effortlessly kind, but rather, Kathryn would go to great lengths to be kind, even when others weren’t. It was just who she was. We could barely walk across campus before she’d get sidetracked to give a stranger a compliment, or start a conversation with a student she’s met twice, or stop to chat with our president, Dr. Foster! I was truly amazed to be able to watch Kathryn quickly adapt to the new environment and remain “The Mayor,” even while fighting her own battles. Kathryn was the sweetest, most compassionate, and happiest person I’ve ever met and will ever meet.
Kathryn made me a better person just by her example. To be kinder. To take things less seriously. To always prioritize our loved ones. To have unfailing compassion and never withhold a compliment. And to spread love. In moments of dilemma, I would think, “What would Kathryn say I should do?” which also applied to whether I should eat ice cream that day (always a yes!). Kathryn has always and will continue to have a huge home in my heart. I am beyond thankful that I found her as my friend in highschool and became closer and closer over the years. Her happiness was infectious at North, during Blood Drives, football games, proms, and lunch. It only grew in college, spreading her love to more people than I can even imagine. And while TCNJ will be strange and empty without her puns and her smile or without her hugs before saying good night, I know that she’ll always be walking with me. And will probably be the little voice telling me to eat ice-cream, open a Dove chocolate, or watch a Disney movie.
Kathryn, thank you for fiercely being you and always being a steadfast friend, in Mercer and in Hunterdon. I’ll forever take more photos, hug people tighter, eat more Reese’s, and never forget to say “I love you.” I miss you so very much and can’t wait to hug you when I see you again. As always, I love you, girlie.

Go outside tonight and lift up your eyes to the stars and I bet you will see Kathryn's smiling face shining down upon you. I am certain that our dear Lord God already appreciates her company even far more than the limitless love we had for here while she was with us. Bless you dear child, Be Thou At Peace. We all look forward to seeing you once again one day and hope that we may be called upon to rejoin your company in the Mansions of the Lord! God bless you and your family.

Kathryn was one of a kind - so full of love, positivity, compassion, and a quiet strength. She had the ability to brighten anyone’s day and always strived to do so. From the first time I met her it was clear how much she cared. I feel so blessed to have lived on the same floor as her during our freshman year, because that resulted in a friendship I will always remember and cherish! Whether we were studying, watching a movie/show, crafting, or going out to eat, Kathryn made you appreciate life more. She was always armed with an impressive array of puns, things she wanted to share, a ready smile, the best hugs, and a whole lot of love. She was the kind of friend who would walk you down the hall after you brushed your teeth - just to spend a tiny bit more time together, and who would leave surprise sticky notes for you with compliments or encouragement. During first semester she had an 8 am class right before me, in the same room. Being able to greet each other and check in made the rest of the day feel brighter. She was the kind of person you thought was too good for this world, and who you knew was helping shape it for the better. Kathryn was always relentlessly herself. I felt inspired to be more like her and still continue to be. The time we spent together was so special. I will miss her greatly, and I know there are many others who will too because she was so loved. The Berger family have my deepest condolences during this time and are in my thoughts and prayers. <3

I was one of Kathryn's peer mentors at The College of New Jersey. Kathryn would always come into class with such positivity and was driven to excel and do well in the classroom. It is evident that she was a hard worker in everything she does and was determined to succeed. Once peer mentoring ended, I would always see Kathryn around campus and she would make my day a million times brighter. Not everyone you meet in this world is kind, but Kathryn was. She has touched my life in ways she probably doesn't even know. Whether I was having a bad day or not feeling my best, seeing her would always make me smile. She has a very unique sense of humor, not many people can crack jokes like Kathryn did. She left rainbows everywhere she walked and those who knew her would most definitely agree. I am so blessed to have met Kathryn and to have crossed paths with someone who made life seem so much brighter. I will carry her positive energy throughout my days and she will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish her family all of the strength and love there is in this world and send my deepest condolences.

There are no words that I could use to truly describe Kathryn or what she meant to me. She was a ray of sunshine. She was positivity on steroids. She made me smile just by seeing her. But I think her greatest gift was that she made others around her feel like they were so very important. Every time I saw her when we parted she would say, I love you. And she meant it. Knowing Kathryn as a little girl and seeing her grow into the wonderful young woman that she became, was truly a gift. Thank you, Kathryn for being who you are and for letting me be a part of your life. You will be missed beyond measure and I will think of you every time I eat Martin's Popcorn. I met Kathryn a few times at TCNJ. We didn't have any classes together, just ran into each other a couple times while getting food, standing in lines, etc. I'm not sure if she even remembered me, but her positivity always left me with a smile. One particular time I was walking to class happily listening to music after a rather rough day. She was walking in the other direction and as she passed me she stopped to say, "Your smile is like sunshine, it's so infectious. Have a great day!" This was without prompt and purely out of the goodness of her heart. It had been a struggle for me to put a smile on my face that day, and her comment and joy immediately turned that around. She made me beam with happiness and gratitude. All the times that I was lucky enough to interact with her she gave me this feeling. Her puns and jokes astonished me. They rolled off of her tongue so fast that I was in awe. These little moments in life are the moments that show your true character, when nobody is watching. I didn't know her at all, but she approached me with such kindness. What an amazing soul she was. I'm so glad to have met her, and I will carry her positivity with me as inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with the Berger family. <3

Kathryn could brighten the worst and darkest days in both her peers and her teacher, usually with an unexpected joke or her mom's chocolate chip cookies. (Which she swore was the recipe off the back of the bag, but we all know how superior those cookies really are!) One of the most notable memories I have of Kathryn was finding her little handwritten mantras all over her school work. They were colorful love notes to herself reminding her just how capable she truly was. Her confidence, energy, joy, light, kindness, and spirit were inspiring. She taught us all lessons in being ourselves and embracing life.
Below is the introduction of a vignette Kathryn wrote in my English IV class.
"Time slowed down. As if someone had just taken life’s remote and hit pause. I could finally breathe. Inhale. Exhale. Feeling my heart calmly skip. The feeling was rare. Like seeing a double rainbow. I craved these kinds of moments. And when they finally came, I loved every second of it."
She was writing about a day at the beach with her family. I hope she is now breathing a little easier in timeless days filled with endless double rainbows and warm vibrant sunsets.
Love, Ms. Baehr (Mrs. Rhoads)

There must have been an opening in heaven for an “Angel” because Kathryn Berger would be the best candidate. God must have needed her services in heaven. She has always had the heart of an angel as long as I have known her.
Kathryn had a great life serving her family and the North Hunterdon community with her involvement in numerous fundraisers and Unified events. You will not find a kinder, sweeter and compassionate person than Kathryn. She always thought of others and not herself. Even when she has battled cancer for many years, she always wanted to help others and not herself. Even during her battle with cancer, she was able to go to college at TCNJ. This just goes to show you what character, perseverance and Love for life that she exhibited.
When Kathryn attended North Hunterdon, she would always make my day when I saw her. Everyday she would stop in to see me to see how I was doing and she always left me with a positive reminder that would make me smile. She was like a breath of fresh air for me and a constant reminder to take every day to its fullest.
Kathryn seemed to take it all in with her joyful life with her family and friends. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Kathryn. Kathryn will surely be missed but never forgotten in my heart.
