Obituary of Thomas J Mahoney

Thomas 'TJ' Mahoney, 72, of Washington, NJ passed away on May 24th, 2020. TJ was born on June 7, 1947 in Phillipsburg, NJ, was the son of the late Thomas J. and Agnes B. Mahoney. Personal: Married, Elizabeth (Betty) A. Pasquini in August of 1970. He graduated from Washington High School class of 1965. Thomas was a Production/Shipping Manager with BASF Chemical Company in Washington before retiring in 2006. He proudly served with the 3rd Marine Division Force Logistics Group Bravo in Vietnam and his unit was involved in the 1968 battle of Con-Thien, the Khe-San siege and the Tet Offensive in Hue. He was credited with 23 Military Unit Operations during his tour of duty in Vietnam. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed taking the odd, candid shot. He also was a member of an international high-power speedboat racing team until the gas crisis in the 70's. He especially enjoyed road training, entering and running many 5K races (mailbox plus 2!) all over the eastern states with daughter Gina as she was training to run in the NYC Marathon. Memberships: Thomas was a Life Member of VFW Post 6701, and a charter member and officer of the Warren County Marine Corps League Chapter #894, a Life member of the New Jersey Marine Corps League, and a Life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Tom and Brother Dennis were past members of Jump Master Bungee of Livingston, NJ. He was a licensed Power and Steam Engineer and registered by the State of NJ. He was a member of St Peters Episcopal Church in Washington, NJ, Survivors: He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty), Daughter, Gina and granddaughters Holly Elizabeth and Madelyn Deborah, of Palmer Township, PA. Brother, Dennis and wife Susan of Washington, NJ. Sister, JoAnn Risko and husband John of Dover Delaware, nephews John Risko, Scott Risko, wife Karen, and Glenn Risko. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Ann. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Thomas's honor to wearebattleborne.com.
