Patty and I were saddened to learn of Catherine's death. Although we grieve the loss of "Miss Catherine", because of the Faith we share we rejoice in knowing she is at rest and God has taken her to her eternal reward.
Catherine was an extraordinary woman, a "Warrior" in every sense of the word. She lived a life of joy and purpose. She devoted 30 years to the School Camp impacting on the lives of hundreds of campers, and counselors alike. She cherished the role of being "Miss Catherine, the School Camp cook". She cared about the Campers, and they cared in return. Although Catherine appeared tough as nails, and she was, she had a heart of gold.
She will forever be part of the School Camp and remembered with much fondest by all her Campers and Counselors alike.
Thank you "Miss Catherine". Well done. Rest in Peace.
Patty and The Colonel

Catherine was a cherished member of our Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Joseph’s Church. She was a knitting mentor to all of us. Her enthusiasm, good humor, infectious laugh & overall “energizer bunny” approach to life will be missed greatly.
One of Catherine’s ideas was for our group to knit or crochet hats & scarfs for whomever was receiving chemo treatments at the facility where she was receiving chemo treatments. This was Catherine - always thinking of others & finding a way to help. We as a group will be starting the Catheriine’s Wish Project and will be presenting the items to the chemo facility in Catherine’s memory - and thinking of Catherine now & something she would say - “aren’t you finished with that yet?” - we will Catherine - you are our inspiration. Rest In Peace Catherine.

I came to know Catherine through the St. Joseph Prayer Shawl Ministry. As a novice knitter/crocheter - crocheting was definitely not her style and something she pointed out as below her : ) She could take any crochet pattern and knit it and save yarn by doing it! Wow!! I came to admire her work and creativity. She would take any yarn (even the little amount left of a skein) and make it into something beautiful. She out knitted us all. She not only helped our ministry by knitting hats, scarves, shawls, etc - but many others organizations she spoke about - knitting hats/mittens for giving trees at other organizations, making mats for the homeless out of plastic bags, and more. She was an inspiration to me. She was a mentor to many in our group and would help adjust a pattern and was always there for advise. I came to know her work with the school, work at the shrine, church bingo and the camp. I enjoyed seeing the picture and hearing her story of milking her goat, stories of how she learned knitting and how she was made to fix her own socks if there were holes in them. Only knowing her for the last few years, I could imagine what she must have been like - a firecracker of a lady. She seemed to give of herself to as many as she could. She would run into my shopping cart at the grocery store with her basket full of food for the camp - which astounded me with how she could cook in such large quantities when I could only cook for 4. What an amazing woman! She will surely be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. My favorite quote from her “any idiot could do it” - in reference to knitting. LOL.

Growing up, I spent most of my summers working with Ms. Catherine at the Lawrenceville School Camp. She taught us so many crucial lessons about perseverance, hard work, cooking skills, and good work ethic. She was a role model to all who worked with her, and will always remain in our hearts.

I became a better Girl Scout leader because of Mrs. Phifield. I enjoyed talking with her whenever she entered
Port Colden school. Etta and Ruby, I know how proud she was of her girls, her son, and all of her grandchildren.
Thank you for taking care of her.
My thoughts and prayers are with you,
Pam (Robbins) Slack
