Obituary of Waltraud Knudsen

Waltraud "Kathy" Knudsen, 97, passed away peacefully in Heath Village Nursing home on April 3, 2019. Kathy was born in Minden, Germany on November 10, 1921 to the late Ernst and Anna Herta Goettke. Kathy was educated in Germany, attending the Berlin Film Academy and later becoming an actress in Germany during the war. She meet the love of her life the late Arthur Knudsen in Germany after the War. She moved to Nyack, NY and later Washington, NJ in 1950. Kathy was a school teacher for Warren Hills High School, teaching German, World language and Drama. She also taught German and Drama at Mt. St. John Academy in Gladstone NJ. Later she worked at Hunterdon Developmental Center as Director of Volunteer services until her retirement in 1993. She was past president of the PTA and past board member of the Washington Township Historical Commission. Kathy enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She was a truly cultured women who loved Opera and the Theater. Kathy is survived by her loving children, Herta Thomas and Christian Knudsen and his wife Gay. Grandchildren, Quinn and Katarina. In addition to her beloved husband Arthur, Kathy was preceded in death by a son Roger Knudsen and son-in-law Bill Thomas. Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday April 7, 2019 from 6-8 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Monday April 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the funeral Home. Interment will follow at Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Kathy's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
