Obituary of Melvin Jay Mayberry
Melvin "Jay" Mayberry, 87, formerly of Mansfield Township, Warren County, NJ passed away at The House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown, NJ on March 13, 2018.
He was born on November 19, 1930 in Phillipsburg, NJ and was the son of the late Clarence B. and Mildred D. (Wydner) Mayberry.
Jay graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1949. He then served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1954. While serving in England for three years he met and married Margaret Ann Hicks. They were married for 53 years until her passing in 2007.
Jay worked for 46 years at Welsh Farms Creamery in Long Valley, NJ retiring in 2001. After his retirement he worked part time for Clinton Napa Auto Parts. He enjoyed gardening and his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Jay is survived by his daughter, Karen A. Bowers and her husband Kevin of Stewartsville; his daughter Michele J Guarriello and her husband, Nicholas of Washington; grandchildren Justine C. Slack (Nathan), Austin J. Bowers (Melissa), Nicholas M Guarriello, Jr. (Lauren), Sarah A. Rapp (Kyle); three great granddaughters and a sister, Jean C. Mayberry of Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife, a granddaughter and brother, Clarence B. Mayberry, Jr.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday March 19, 2018 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home 234 W. Washington Ave Washington, NJ 07882 (908) 689-0119. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 beginning with a viewing from 10:00AM to 11:00AM followed by a 11:00AM Service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Port Murray Cemetery in Port Murray NJ.
