My partner and I met Ed in the summer of 2006, when he was attending a conference in Montreal and we figured it was time we got back to town for a visit too. I had known Ed well from the Democratic Underground discussion forum, where we delighted in tormenting the stealth wingnuts in the "we love guns!" forum, and from which he was banned a few years before I was. :) I am very glad that we got to meet and share an evening of beer followed by a breakfast of proper Montreal bagels on Mount Royal. Just now, I was skimming through the dormant email account I had used at the time, and tried sending him a message. Like so many things in life now, too late. We will raise a glass of our local brewery's finest to Ed tonight. My best wishes to Diana and William. I have no doubt that many people have very fond memories of Ed.

I am so very sorry to hear about Ed. He was an integral part of my life at Gralla contributing his intelligence , humor, outstanding writing talent and more. I never wrote a column without having him edit it. And it was always better afterwards. He was much loved and respected in the kitchen and bath industry. I was lucky to know him.

I am so sorry to have heard about Ed's passing and his health struggles over the past two years. Ed and I worked together at Gralla Publications starting in 1979. We were friends and colleagues in our youth, a very impressionable time. Sorry doesn't even begin to express my feelings for your loss. All the best, Debbie

I worked with Ed beginning in the late 1980's when he was with Kitchen & Bath Business... I instantly enjoyed his wit, wisdom and generosity (I was a new kid in the industry and he was already a very experienced expert).
His warmth and humor came through as much as his intelligence, and I recall very fondly the lunches we had at a nearby Argentinian steakhouse. We took in a Yankees game one time, and we'd always catch up at industry events.
Ed knew everybody and everything that was going on and was really just an unforgettable force. Miss him already, but his memory will never fade.

I worked with Ed at Gralla Publications and always found him witty and kind. He was one of my first friends there, and I recall both his quirky smile and sense of humor. While others might be cutting in their assessments of others, Ed could be opinionated but never mean-spirited. I remember that very well. I hadn't seen him for nearly 35 years, but this news makes me sad.

I am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I have fond memories of working with him at Gralla--he had a wonderfully irreverent wit and was one of the most authentic and kind people I have known. Sadly, we lost touch over the years, but I will miss him all the same. My sincere condolences to Diana and to his family and friends.

I can't believe it will be Christmas without Ed. My brother Terry, also a writer, who knew Ed for many years would celebrate the holidays with Ed and his wife Diana. We would all gather at Terry's house or at a restaurant and Terry's wife, Lisa, I and often other long time friends would eat, drink and be merry. Ed would regale us with stories. It was wonderful. He and Terry were planning on what they would do this year. I was looking forward to it and am heartbroken that Ed will not be at the dinner table. He was only four months younger than me and too young to leave us. With not that many relatives and family we formed one for the holidays. My sincere condolences to Diana who gave much happiness to Ed. He was a wonderful person and I will never forget him. Margaret Moffatt

Dear Ed,
You were one of my first NYC friends so long ago. I will never forget how weird and wonderful you were (not to mention true and talented). Thank you for going roller skating with us (sorry about those broken arms), for introducing me to Bunuel movies, for mourning the death of our dog Tulpen with me and Tony, for singing "Oh, Canada" at Yankee games, for those fun nights at Tehran, for being such a spirited bowler and for all the many many terrific memories. PS: I am still haunted by your science fiction story about the man with the head the size of a baseball!
All my love, and I'll see you later, Annie
