I would like to express my deepest sympathy to family and friends. May all your good memories outweigh your sadness during this difficult time. (Isaiah 25:8)

John and I met over 40 years ago on a High Iron steam excursion, and that began a friendship which has endured until his death.
I knew his health was declining and I made it a point to call him about once a month. At times his voice would falter, but on our last call, in July, his voice was strong and his outlook was positive.
I know his most fervent wish was to die in the home where he had lived for all of his 89 years, and he achieved that final goal
The Big Conductor in the Sky has called him home. He will rest in a place where every railroad is run by steam power and the coaches all have open windows.
R.I.P., John

John was a dear friend for over 50 years and a dedicated rail historian second to none.
His knowledge of the Lackawanna Railroad was encyclopedic and he had committed to memory details of events from way back when that were truly incredible.
I shall miss him immemnsly and hope that he finds a steam powered railroad to his liking in heaven.
R.I.P.
