Obituary of Ethel Dumas

Ethel Dumas, 91, passed away on January 23, 2016 at Forest Manor Health Care Center in Hope, NJ Ethel was born on July 11, 1924 in East Paterson, NJ, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Hlywa. Ethel graduated from Lodi High School Class of 1942. She was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Fairlawn, NJ. Ethel was employed as a public school bus driver in Fair Lawn. She was also employed at Curtis Wright Aeronautics in Woodbridge, NJ, where she met her husband of 61 years. Previously of Elmwood Park and Whiting NJ, Ethel enjoyed crossword puzzles, ceramics, and the beach, particularly the Jersey Shore. While living in Whiting, she and her husband frequently spent the day with friends at Island Beach State Park. In her younger days, Ethel enjoyed outings with friends at the YWCA, usually swimming or playing tennis. Her favorite vacation destinations were ocean cruises and Hawaii. Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving children, a daughter, Maryann Vermeulen and her husband Brom, 2 sons, Robert Dumas and his wife Marilyn and Gary Dumas and his wife Kathy. 2 grandchildren, Heather and Derek Dumas and 2 great-grandchildren, Daylin and Adaline. She is preceded in death by her husband Stewart Dumas, who passed in March 2012. Ethel is also predeceased by sisters Anne and Catherine, brothers Michael and Andrew. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
