Obituary of Phyllis T. Watkins

Phyllis T. Watkins, 93, passed away peacefully at the Care Center of Brakeley Park on February 1, 2010. Born: in Everly, Iowa on September 13, 19 16, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Laura Mabel Thiel. Personal: Phyllis lived most of her life in Washington, NJ. Phyllis was a homemaker. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. Phyllis served as a Lieutenant in the Navy Nurses Corps in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II. During her Naval career, she met her husband Herbert A. Watkins, who was also an officer in the Navy. She loved playing bridge, she was a talented seamstress. She was an avid reader and loved sports. Many years ago, Phyllis helped organize the Visiting Nurses Association of Warren County and she was also very active in the Girl Scouts. Survivors: a daughter, Mimi Ventresca and her husband Anthony of Skillmen, NJ; a son, William R. and his wife Marybeth of Morristown, NJ; six grandchildren, Lauren Ventresca, Danny Ventresca, Will Ventresca, Megan Watkins, Rusty Watkins and Amy Watkins; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Sara, Sophia, Liam, Matilda and Harry. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert A. Watkins who passed away in 1976, three brothers Dayton Thiel, Bryce Thiel, Dean Thiel, and two sisters Lorraine Holts and Earlaine Braun. Services: A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 12 p.m. Calling hours will be at 11 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday, at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882.
