Obituary of David N. Wilson

David Newton Wilson, 86, of Pompton Plains NJ, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2014, at Morristown Medical Center, after a long illness. Born: Dave was born in 1927 in Verona, NJ to parents Arthur & Susie (Dugan) Wilson. Personal: He graduated from Verona High School in 1945, and then enlisted in the US Navy in time to serve during World War II. Assisted by the GI Bill, he attended Colgate University in Hamilton NY and earned his BA in 1950. He began his lifelong career in the insurance industry, working for Aetna Life Insurance Co. and with his father at CL Bussing in New York. Dave reunited with his high school sweetheart, Norma Carmichael, and they were married in 1951. Together, they raised their family of four children in Verona among extended family, and later in nearby Morristown. Dave was the driving force behind the formation and growth of his insurance agency, Dunlop, Onderdonk & Wilson, first in New York City and later in Passaic and Wayne NJ, until his retirement in 1992. He had continued into this year to manage his own insurance accounts through New Agency Partners LLC, Parsippany, where his son Bruce is a partner. He actively participated in community religious, charity and outreach programs. He served as Elder and Trustee for The Presbyterian Church in Morristown, was a founder and president of the Cromwell Hills Civic Association and the Cromwell Hills Community Pool. Dave had served as President of the Wayne Rotary Club, board member of Foundation for the Handicapped in Wayne, class officer and reunion chair for Verona HS and Colgate University alumni associations, and president of Smugglers' Notch Homeowners' Association in Vermont. He enjoyed golf, skiing, supporting the activities of his wife and children, and he especially loved vacation time with his family. Survivors: He is survived by his wife Norma, sister Ruth, son Scott and daughter-in-law Teresa (Di Martino), daughter Cindy Wilson O'Neill and son-in-law Jim, daughter Kimberley Wilson, and son Bruce and daughter-in-law Karen (Schmid), and ten grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Muriel Dunn and Suzanne Blakeman. Services: A memorial service will celebrate Dave's life at 10 am on Saturday May 10, 2014, at The First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street, Washington, NJ 07882. Memorials: Donations may be made in Dave's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), 14 Commerce Drive, Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
