Obituary of John J. Tartis

John J. Tartis, 73, died Sept. 6, 2010, at the New Jersey Firemen's Home, Boonton. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at St. Ann's Catholic Catholic Church, 6 Church St., Hampton, N.J. 08827, with Fr. Michael Saharic officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Parish Cemetery. To send an online condolence please visit www.warrenhillsmemorial Born on Newark, N.J., on May 6, 1937, John lived in Newark and Fanwood before moving to Glen Gardner 30 years ago. John was a third generation career fireman working for 35 years, and serving as deputy chief for the Newark Fire Department before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Retired Police and Fire of Essex County and a member of Local 1860 Fire Officers, Union. He graduated from Kean University. John served proudly in the U.S. Army National Guard during peacetime. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hampton. He was the son of the late John and Anna Tartis. Surviving are his loving wife, Carol; a son, John Tartis and his wife, Michaelann, of New Mexico; a brother, William Tartis of Neptune, N.J., and a sister, Linda DePalma of Monmouth Beach.
