Obituary of John J. Smith

John J. Smith, 54, a six year resident of Washington, NJ, died Sunday, July 16, 2006 at his home. Born: On January 20, 1952 in Summit, NJ, he was a son of the late John, Sr. and Bertha Smith. Personal: He and his wife, Susan, were married for 22 years. John was a previous resident of North Plainfield, NJ and was a 1969 graduate of Summit High School. He was a production supervisor for Gynotech in Whitehouse Station, and Hartz Mountain in Bloomfield, retiring in 1998. He retired as corporate chef for Verizon at their training facility in Edison, NJ. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. John enjoyed cooking, was an avid New York Mets baseball and New York Jets football fan. He loved NASCAR and was a Dale Earnhardt fan. Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Susan, he is survived by a son, Richard of Scotch Plains, NJ; a sister, Joanne Kaufmann of Livingston, NJ; a nephew, John; two nieces, Jill and Janine; and his German Shepard, Carter. Services: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the funeral home. Cremation will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home, Washington, NJ.
