Obituary of Gerald A. Smith
Gerald A. Smith 95 of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday January 26, 2014 at St. Luke's Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg.
Born: Gerald was born on August 5, 1918 to the late Albert and Jessie Smith of Riegelsville, NJ.
Personal: Gerald was a lifelong resident of Washington. He served proudly in the US Navy during WWII as a 1st Class Cook. He saw action in Europe and the pacific theaters. After the war he worked at the Journal of Commerce, the Washington Star and ran the print shop at the Ave Maria Institute in Washington until his retirement. He also worked 34 years at the Washington Shoprite. Gerald was a hard working man known for his gentle spirit and great sense of humor, he was quite the comedian. His life joy was his beloved wife, children and grandchildren who he loved spending time with. In his retirement years, he enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and WWE wrestling on television.
Survivors: A daughter Judy Peterson and her husband James; four sons, Gerald Smith Jr. and his wife Debora, Richard Smith, John Smith and his wife Kerry and Kevin Smith and his wife Angel; a sister Beryl Wolfe and a brother Victor Smith; 12 Grandchildren; Shawn, Stacey, Melissa, Alan, Lisa, Richard Jr, Nicole, Katie, John Jr, Joshua, Nicholas and Carly and 9 Great Grandchildren. Gerald was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years Carolyn and a brother Glenn Smith, a sister Hazel and a grandson Jason.
Services: Friends and family may call on Thursday January 30, 2014 from 4-7 Pm at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Hoff officiating. Interment will follow at the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ.
