Obituary of Clara A. Mewhinney
Clara A. Mewhinney, 89, of Oxford, NJ, died Thursday, January 27, 2005 in Hackettstown Community Hospital, Hackettstown, NJ.
Born: On November 5, 1915 in Dover, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret Parks Ludwig.
Personal: Her beloved husband, William E., passed away in 1980. A 50 year resident of Oxford, Clara worked as a secretary for the Mansfield Township Police Department and Planning Board, until retiring in 1990 after 17 years of service. She also worked for the Washington Clinic earlier in her life. She attended Washington High School on Taylor Street. She graduated from the Churchman's Business School. Clara played with a local bridge club. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. She will be lovingly remembered as friend to everyone.
Memberships: Clara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, where she served as an elder and a member of the Presbyterian Women. She was past president of the Washington Women's Club, a Committee member of the Washington Celebrates America, and was Grand Marshall of the Parade in 1995.
Survivors: She is survived by a daughter, Susan Jost and her husband, Stephen of Washington; two sisters, Dorothy Lovellette of Florida, Mace Baldwin of Junedale, Pa; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson, Charles E., and Stephen C. Jost all of Mansfield, NJ; three great grandchildren, Samantha, Noah, and Bailey; and nine nieces and nephews.
Services: Will be Monday at 8 p.m. in the Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with the Rev. James Scovell officiating. For online obituaries, please visit www.warrenhillsmemorialhome.com.
