Obituary of Olive Aaroe Lewis
Olive Aaroe Lewis, 92, of Washington Township, NJ died October 25, 2008 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ. Olive was the wife of the late Fred E. Lewis who died December 6, 2002.
Born: She was born May 5, 1916 in Oxford, NJ daughter of the late Morris Pederson Aaroe and Sadie Sweitzer Little.
Personal: She graduated from Hackettstown High School class of 1934 and of La Tour Academy of Beauty Culture, Trenton, N.J in 1945, owning and operating the Olive Aaroe Salon in Washington, N.J for 22 years and a licensed Cosmetologist for 52 years. In the 1940's she was Tax Collector in Oxford Twp. for 14 years and chaired the 1st meeting to organize the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oxford Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a charter member of the Auxilary. She was a licensed Realtor in Pa. for many years and in New Jersey since 1973. She was a local crafts person working in oils and watercolor, making lampshades, stenciling on velvet and furniture, tinsel painting and other fields in Art. Memberships: A member of the County Board of Realtors and Garden State M.L.S associated with Karen Koerner, Sig Kuhne Realty in Washington, NJ since 1985. A lifelong member of the Oxford Colonial Methodist Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Peggy Warne Chapter. A member of Washington Woman's Club since 1964 serving as President, member of the Art Literature group and a member of the Past President's Club since 1966. Olive was a member of Warren Co. Historical Society as well as a member of the Oxford Historical Society. Member of the friends of Shippen in Oxford. She was also a member of the S.P.C.A in Pa and Friends of the Library in Belvidere, NJ
Survivors: A nephew, Paul II and his wife Nancy G. Aaroe of Bethlehem, PA; Great-nephew, Paul Aaroe III and Great Niece, Annie Aaroe; also nieces and nephews Barry D'Aprix of Allamuchy, Jay D'Aprix of West Caldwell; a niece Lynn D'Aprix Dennis of Upper Montclair; the Aaroe / Day family; the Lewis / Spath family in Oregon; a niece Ann Bourlier; Associates Karen Koerner and Kate Mikolon. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 2002 and her only brother, the Honorable Paul M. Aaroe died in 2000.
Services: Call will be on Tuesday from 5-7 PM in the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234. W. Washington, Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A service will be held on Wednesday with Call at 9:00am and services starting at 10:00 am in the Warren Hills Memorial Home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Oxford, NJ. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234. W. Washington, Ave. Washington, NJ 07882.
