To the Halmi family,
My sincere sympathy to you all. I am a former student of Warren Hills, class of 1982, and remember Mr. Halmi as a fair man. Always listening to both sides. I learned from him that there is always the flip side. There are other ways of handling life other than your own idea or opinion. I also never felt intimidated by him. There are those that you can see inside that they actually care. He was one of those people. I'm grateful of the lasting positive influence he had on me. Again, my best regards to the family.
Jim Wolverton
If I may, there are two other former teachers (gym) that made comments. To those two and Mr.Halmi, thank you for your positive lifelong impact on me that made me a better man.

He was a family member with a big heart, I think my Dad set him up to be a spy to report my hall behavior with boyfriends in Jr. High. He was such a gentle soft spoken man. I would not be surprised if he is now building homes with Jimmy Carter for Habitat for Humanity in Heaven. My love and thoughts to Sue, Jiff, and Jay. Deb Fluck

I was an English teacher at Warren Hills and had the great pleasure of working with John from 1981 to his retirement in 1994. During those 13 years I respected him as highly skilled administrator and cherished him as a friend with whom I had many wonderful conversations. My wife, Mary, and I extend our deepest sympathy to John’s family. May his memory be a blessing.

I will always remember John Halmi with a warm smile. He was a person I admired throughout my years of teaching at Warren Hills. John was caring, kind , fair and had a sweet sense of humor. He deserves special recognition for finishing every round of golf at Fairway Valley in record time. Deepest condolences to his daughter Sue and everyone in the family. Rest in peace dearest John.

He was the best Grandad I ever could have asked for, but more importantly, he was a role model who taught me so much about how to live life, and he was my best friend for over twenty years, and he always will be. Not a day will ever go by where I don’t miss him, and I’d give anything in the world to have a hot dog and a chat one more time with him.

To the Halmi Family,
I’ll never forget having Mr.Halmi as my teacher. We sat together on the school bus in January of 1975 enroute to the NJ State school of conservation in Stokes State Forest with Mr.Tosto and a few other teachers. He was one of my favorite teachers who always put the kids first. When we returned from our school trip there was a bad snow storm, but Bill, our bus driver returned us back to school safely with the poor road conditions. Upon arrival mom had been there at the school to pick me up. Mr Halmi was going to call home for a ride but mom x I took him home.
RIP Mr Halmi. Love Karen x the class of 1975.

Dear Halmi Family, please accept my sincere condolences of the passing of Mr. Halmi. I started teaching at the high school in 1984 and Mr. Halmi was the assistant principal there. I’ll never forget what he told me when I was having difficulty with a student. He said, “you’re going to learn more from your students in the first 5 years than you’re going to impart on your students.” I never forget that piece of wisdom. God bless him and your entire family in these difficult times.
