Obituary of John F Fitzsimmons
John Fitzsimmons, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on December 8. 2024 at St. Luke’s Warren Hospital at the age of 93.
Born on March 28, 1931, in Manhattan, New York, to the late William A. Fitzsimmons and Margaret Cremmins, John lived a life filled with love, service, and accomplishment. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably during the Korean War.
John earned his bachelor's degree from Iona University, which laid the foundation for a successful career at Bell Atlantic and other telecommunication companies. Starting in 1955, he dedicated over three decades to the company before retiring in 1991. His work ethic and integrity earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers.
In his personal life, John found joy in golfing and bowling, activities that brought him lasting friendships and many cherished memories. He was deeply involved in his church communities in Washington and Bergenfield, NJ, where he volunteered his time enthusiastically to organize bingo nights.
Above all, John cherished his family. He is survived by his five loving children: Kathleen Donovan and her husband William of River Edge, NJ; Janet McLellan and her husband William of Venice, Florida; Carolyn Donahue and her husband Kevin of River Vale, NJ; Susan Helbock of Pleasantville, NY; and John Fitzsimmons and his wife Lisa of Flemington, NJ. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren: Kevin Donahue (Stephanie) and Daniel Fitzsimmons (Katie), Sean Donahue (Sophia), Shannon McLellan, Nicholas Fitzsimmons (Kelly), Audrey Moran (JJ), Joseph Helbock and Henry Helbock. He also leaves behind his cherished great-grandchildren; Rose Donahue, Kevin Moran and Theo Donahue.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his wife, Maureen, who passed in 2008 and his brother William Fitzsimmons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 200 Carlton Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

John Fitzsimmons will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faith, and his country. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
