Obituary of Edward J Steele Jr
Edward “Eddie” J. Steele Jr., 74, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024 in St. Luke’s University Hospital - Fountain Hill.
Eddie was born at home in Washington, NJ on December 23, 1949 to the late Edward J. Steele Sr. and Edith L. “Williams” Steele. He graduated from the first Warren Hills High School Class of 1968. He attended HBCU Morgan State College, where he studied history and political science and was the wrestling captain. Eddie worked as a Project Coordinator for Frazier Industrial in Long Valley, NJ for more than 46 years.
Eddie was proud, resourceful, disciplined and loving. He took great pride in maintaining the family home and was an enthusiastic host of cookouts, holiday dinners, birthday parties, and more. Eddie was a supportive son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather and was always willing to lend a hand and offer advice.
Eddie was passionate about sports and history. He supported all Warren Hills High School sports. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Eddie was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team. Eddie was a lifelong learner and studied United States, Black, political and family history. In his spare time, he also enjoyed deep sea fishing and traveling.
Eddie is survived by his sons, Jason D. Miller and Isaac Csezmadia; his daughter Patricia Williamson; his siblings, James Walker, Ina Walls, Susan Emanu’El, Patricia Barber, Marion Gaskins, Carole Rice, Lewis Steele, John Steele, Nancy Steele and Mary Steele; his grandsons, Jayden Alejandro Miller, Kaymin Chase Miller, Isaac Raymond Csezmadia and Bowie Vasquez; his granddaughter Elizabeth Williamson, and his great grandchildren, Ava Green, Lukas Lollis, and Parker Lollis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Steele, Christopher Steele and Spencer Walker. Eddie also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday August 30, 2024 from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM at the Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Road, Washington, NJ 07882. A service celebrating Eddie’s life will be held at 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Warren Hills Memorial Home.
