Obituary of Frederick K. Kleen

Frederick K. Kleen Jr., 81, of Bethlehem and West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Washington, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, Pa. Born: December 12, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., a son of the late Ellen Lewis and Frederick K. Kleen. Personal: He and his wife, the former Jacqueline R. Delmais, formerly of LeHavre, France, would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 20, 2007. Fred was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1944, and St. Peter's College, class of 1951, Jersey City, with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was a World War II veteran, having served as a staff sergeant in France. He served as a Washington Borough councilman in the 1960s. He was employed by numerous companies; as a senior staff accountant in New York City at Phagan, Tillson and Tremble, a supervisor at Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., secretary/treasurer at Pearsall Chemical Corp., Phillipsburg, and as treasurer-controller for Hooker Chemical Co. in New York City. He had a certified public accounting practice in Newton, N.J., with offices in Washington and Hackettstown, for over 30 years. He was also an adjunct professor at St. Peter's College. Fred enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to France. Memberships: He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Washington. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Washington and American Legion, Paris, France Post No. 1. He was a former member of the Branchville and Washington Rotary Clubs and the NJ CPA Society, serving as president of the Morris Chapter. He also served as a Washington Borough Republican committeeman. Survivors: his wife, Jacqueline R.; a daughter, Jeannette, and son-in-law, Barry C. Smith, of Forks Twp.; a son, Frederick K. III and daughter-in-law, Virginia DeLalla, of Morris Plains, N.J., a son, Gregory D. and daughter-in-law, Susanne, of Robinson, Ill., a daughter, Lorraine E. Ferry, and son-in-law, Stephen, of High Bridge, N.J. and a daughter, Joyce M. Kleen and her companion, Jerry Smith, of Crystal River, Fla.; four grandchildren, Timothy Kleen, Sean Ferry, Matthew Ferry and Daniel Ferry. His sister, Margaret Tramutola, died in 2005, a brother, John Kleen died in 1955, and a grandson, David Kleen, died in 1996. Services: A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Warren Hills / Ford Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, with Fr. Blaise Baran officiating. Family and friends are invited to share and celebrate Fred's life 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, to the Washington Rotary Club, care of R.J.
