Obituary of Steven R Malanga

Steven Richard Malanga, of Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly of Washington, NJ) died unexpectedly on December 24, 2023. He was 43 years old. Steve was born on March 2, 1980, in Flemington NJ, the son of Steven and Theresa Malanga (Handley). Growing up Steve could be found fishing in the creek, hunting and building forts in the woods, or playing backyard ball games with a group of neighborhood friends. He played several sports over the years but his talent and passion shined through on the golf course - so much so that as a young teen he worked at a local course in exchange for greens fees, later playing for his high school golf team. Steve graduated from Warren Hills Regional High School in 1999. He attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and was employed as a truck driver for most of his adult life. He appreciated history, specifically books and movies about US history and the World Wars. He knew how to ski, and also won many a chess match. Steve loved the beach since 1983 when his family began their annual summer vacations to his grandparent's house at the South Carolina shore, so it was no surprise when he left NJ to move there in 2017. Steve was an empath who will be missed and remembered as kindhearted, deeply feeling, and multifaceted, with a strong connection to his faith. Steve is survived by his parents Steven and Theresa Malanga, sisters Rebecca and Tara and their husbands, Jamie Feigelson and Michael Miller, three nephews, one niece, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents Richard and Patricia Malanga, James and Anne Handley, his uncles James Handley, Daniel Handley, Tom Handley, and his cousin, Jennifer Handley. Calling hours will be held on January 20, 2023, from 2pm-4pm, with a memorial service starting at 4pm at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 23 W. Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ. Interment will be private. Donations in Steven's memory may be made to Foster Love (fosterlove.com).
