Obituary of Chester Smolenski

Chester Smolenski, 94 of Oxford NJ, passed away at home peacefully with loved ones by his side on March 9th, 2023. He was born on September 24th, 1928. He was born in Oxford NJ being a lifetime resident. He was the son of late Stanley Smolenski and Theofila (Poremba) Smolenski. He proudly served his country in the United States Army being a World War II veteran stationed in Korean from 1946 to 1948. Chester would later go on to work for the Warren County Bridge department as a Stone Mason where he retired in 1982 after almost 25 years. Chester was a lifetime member of the VFW and Warren County Horseshoe pitching club. He enjoyed gardening, and feeding his animals as well as wildlife. Chester also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Chester is survived by his two daughters, Gerri Lynn Calvin, Sharon Fults, and one stepson David Williams. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Melissa McLain, Michelle Sucigan, Wesley Calvin, Catherine Icard, and Paige Fults. Three step-grandchildren Justin Williams, Corey Williams, and Christina and 19 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chester is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Darlene, who passed in September of 2022, his 6 brothers, Peter, Ben, Joseph, Felix, Stanley, and Alex, his 4 sisters, Anna Esposito, Helen Ritzer, Stella Coleman, and Sophie Coleman. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Valerie Piotrowski. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday March 18, 2023 from 10:00-11:30am at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W Washington, NJ 07882. A Funeral Service celebrating in Chester's life will begin at 11:30am at the funeral home with Paster Catherine Jordan-Latham officiating. Burial at Hazen Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Chester's name may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
