Obituary of William James Day

William J. Day, age 79 passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 2, 2023 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. Bill was born in East Orange, NJ on February 12, 1944 to his loving parents, William Bradford Day and Eileen Rourke Day. Bill was one of life's treasures. He had the spirit of an Irish leprechaun; people loved him for the gleam in his eye and his wonderful sense of humor. He spent his youth in Bloomfield, NJ and summers in Cranberry Lake, NJ, where he built life-long friendships. Following the death of his father in 1956, he moved to Belvidere, NJ where he starred in baseball and graduated from Belvidere High School, class of 1962. He then graduated from Greenbrier Military School in West Virginia where he earned Varsity letters in four sports. He went on to attend Parson's College in Fairfield, Iowa before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country honorably. Afterward, Bill spent his time between New Jersey and Florida as a painting contractor, running his own business employing anyone who made him laugh hard enough to get through the day. Most of Bill's favorite pastimes revolved around Cranberry Lake, taking the kids water skiing, enjoying time with family, and taking evening cruises on the pontoon boat, cold beer in hand. Known for his huge heart and breezy personality, Bill's proudest accomplishments were the family he was born with and the family that he built. Bill is survived by his partner Dianne D'Arcy and their son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Kathryn Day, and his daughters, Kelly Moran, Jennifer Day, and Corinne Day. He is predeceased by Corinne's mother, Peggy Cruts. He was known as Grandpop by his beloved grandchildren, Ava, Lily, Owen, and Mallory. Bill leaves behind his sisters, Gail Howell (Mike) of Leesburg, FL, Debbie Tardive (Rick) of Buttzville, NJ, and Eileen Egan (Merrick) of Cranberry Lake, NJ, and his brothers, Brad Day (Becky) of Delaware, NJ and Paul Aaroe (Nancy) of Bethlehem, PA; together with numerous nephews and nieces and countless friends. Bill had a way of finding the beauty in the worst of things and was always there to crack a smile to anyone who needed it. He will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know him, we know he is somewhere in a bathing suit with a great tan. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday March 9, 2023 from 2-4 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Bill's life will begin at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Warren Hills Memorial Home.
