Obituary of Frederick L. Melberger

Frederick L. Melberger, 90, a lifelong resident of Oxford, NJ passed away on December 3, 2022 at St. Luke's Warren Hospital. He was last employed and retired from the New Jersey Army National Guard of Washington, NJ, serving 37 years of service and also serving on active duty during the Korean Conflict. He retired as First Sergeant on May 23, 1986. Born in Oxford, NJ he was the son of the late Frederick H. Melberger and Kathryn Pohl Melberger. He was a lifelong member of the Oxford Colonial Methodist Church, having served on all their committees. Frederick was a life member of the 250th Tank Battalion WCO Association, American Legion Post 131 of Belvidere, NJ, a member of Oxford and Mansfield Masonic Lodges for over 67 years, serving on the original building committee of the Masonic Temple in the 1960's. He was a past Tall Cedar of Warren County Forest Number 14 in 1964. He was also a past chairman of the oxford Republican Committee and bowler with the Masonic Leagues and Novelic?? Leagues at Oakwood Lanes. Frederick was a graduate of Washington High School class of 1950. He is survived by his son, Jeffery Scott Melberger and wife, Lisa and daughter, Barbara Lee Shields and husband Charlie, sister, Burdean Bell and husband Ralph, and his beloved wife, Joan M. "Coleman" Melberger, all of Oxford, NJ Frederick is preceded in death by his brother Gary P. Melberger and his sister, Arlene Brands. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home the following day on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Military honors will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery in Oxford, NJ. Cremation and inurnment will be held privately on a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Frederick's name to Oxford Colonial United Methodist Church, 32 Washington Ave, Oxford, NJ 07863 or the Mansfield Masonic Lodge, No. 36, F&AM, 275 Route 31 South, Washington, NJ 07882.
