Obituary of William E Brewster

William E. Brewster, 88, of Downingtown, PA and previously of Washington, NJ passed away on November 24, 2022 at his daughter's home with loved ones by his side. Bill was born on June 2, 1934 in East Orange, NJ to the late Franklin and Thelma Brewster. Bill served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy in the Caribbean Theater of Operations. He worked as police officer for the Washington Borough Police Department for 25 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant, before his retirement in 1993. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 103, and a proud member of the New Jersey State Police Benevolent Association. He was a founding member of the Police Athletic League and spent many hours dedicated to the kids. Bill was also a member of the Washington Borough Fire Department, and with his service, Bill was a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association. He was an honorary member of the Washington Borough Emergency Squad and the Vernon Oaks Society. He was also the "Captain" of the Jersey Boyz houseboat for over 20 years. Bill enjoyed reading and crosswords, but most importantly spending time with his family and friends. Bill cared deeply about Washington and always volunteered his time willingly. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters; Ginger Jerzak and her husband Michael, June Dwyer and her husband John, and Tammy Hanson and her husband Gerry. Bill also leaves behind his wife, Rose Marie and their grandchildren; Sarah, Emily (Jim), Amanda, Andrew, Tim, Allison, Jonna, Samantha, Jennifer, and Justin, great- grandchildren; Josiah and Norah, his sister, Janis Shaneberger (Don), and many cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his brothers, Alan and Harold Brewster. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Road, Washington, NJ 07882. A service celebrating Bill's life will be held at 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will immediately follow at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ.
