Obituary of Rosemary A. Kent

Rosemary A. Kent, 78, of Asbury, NJ passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022 at Lopatcong Care Center. Rosemary was born on May 15, 1944 in Houston, Texas to the late Lonnie Fox Kent and Virginia Simmons Kent. Rosemary grew up in Baytown, Texas east of Houston. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, School of Journalism. After graduation she returned to Houston where she first worked for the Houston Chronicle and then the Time Magazine, Houston Bureau where she covered the Apollo Moon Landing at NASA. Rosemary moved to New York in 1970 to work for Women's Wear Daily (WWD) and W magazine to cover the fashion industry and society. She left WWD in August 1973 to be Editor in Chief of Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine for nearly two years. After leaving Interview Rosemary worked as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of fashion, shelter and society magazines. From 1989 to 1992 she worked for the Hearst Corporation as Feature Editor on Countryside, a new country-oriented magazine, In 1981 Rosemary wrote a book, The Genuine Texas Handbook that was published by Workman Publishing, New York. She was researching and writing a biography of Elsa Maxwell when she retired. Rosemary married the love of her life Henry L. Meltzer on September 21, 1973. After living together in Manhattan for over twenty years Rosemary and Henry moved to a historic home in the village of Asbury, New Jersey in 1995. Both Rosemary and Henry were active members of the Musconetcong Watershed Association and former trustees and Rosemary was also editor of the MWA newsletter. She is survived by her devoted husband Henry L. Meltzer and beloved pets. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral Service will immediately follow inside the funeral home at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Asbury Presbyterian Cemetery, Asbury, NJ.
