Obituary of Joseph B. Clark
Joseph Bernard Clark Jr., 91 of Washington Township, previously of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022.
Joe was born on September 13, 1930 in Staten Island, NY to the late Joseph Bernard and Grace "Lynch" Clark Sr. Joe was in the New Dorp High school graduating class of 1948. While attending New Dorp he proudly wore #27 on his linesman football uniform. Once graduating high school, Joe attended Manhattan College where he received a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. Joe went on to receive his Master's in Health Education from New York University. Joe loved his country and joined the US Navy, where he became a lieutenant and served during the Korean War. In 1953 Joe married his true love and best friend Theresa "Paul". They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on May 30th of this year. After the Navy Joe returned to New Dorp High School, but this time as a Teacher, Coach, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. Joe loved coaching baseball and in 1968 the New York Daily News awarded Joe with the All Star High School Baseball Coach Award. Joe also served as an adjunct professor at the College of Staten Island. Joe retired from New Dorp in 1991 after working there for more than 37 years. In 2008 he was inducted into the New Dorp High School Football Hall of Fame. Joe was a man of great faith who instilled faith into his family. Whenever possible Joe and his wife Theresa would attend daily mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Bridgewater and later St. Joseph's church in Washington, NJ. They were a great example of love and commitment for all who knew them. During the summer Joe would load up the station wagon and trailer and take his family and pets on great adventures all around the country. Joe is loved dearly by his family and they will miss him deeply. They are so thankful for all the fun memories their Dad created for them. Joe could rarely be found without a smile on his face and he was always ready with a quick joke to bring a smile to yours. Joe is survived by his wife Theresa. He is also survived by his 4 daughters, Mary Beth Ruh (Mike), Theresa Foltiny (Andy), Betsy Clark (Chris Weber), Sharon Levin (Andy); a son Joseph B. Clark III (Jennifer); a brother Raymond Clark (Marie); 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday April 28, 2022 from 4-7pm at Warren Hill Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 Carlton Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A private burial will be held at Washington Crossing Military Cemetery with full US Navy Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
