Obituary of Leon W. Hackett

Leon W. Hackett Sr. 85, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ passed away on March, 31, 2022 at Hunterdon Medical Center, with his family by his side. Leon was born on June 24, 1936 in West Chester, PA to the late Dr Leon Hackett and Mary Bailey. Leon graduated from Washington High School class of 1955. He married his high school sweetheart Shirley "Vosseller" in 1956. He was employed as a Quality Control Inspector for Atlantic States Cast Iron Pipe Company in Phillipsburg, NJ for more than 27 years until his retirement in 1998. Leon was very active until recently. He loved taking daily swims and could often be found swimming at Oxford Lake. He also enjoyed gardening & grew the best tomatoes, carpentry, traveling, and summertime trips to the Jersey Shore, but mostly family gatherings. He enjoyed walking in Washington Borough Park, often followed on his daily walks by his cat "Momma". He was also a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Leon is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Shirley; a daughter, Deborah DeRemer; 3 sons, Leon Hackett Jr., James Hackett and Jeffrey Hackett and his wife Mary Ellen; 4 grandchildren, Kari & Husband Walter, Aaron, Michelle and Mason. In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by a grandson Leon Hackett III. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday April 6, 2022 from 11 AM – 12 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Leon's life begins at 12:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, NJ.
