Obituary of Robert Holzer

Robert "Bob" Holzer, 75, of Oxford , passed away peacefully Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Heath Village Nursing Home. Born: February 15, 1934 in New York , NY , he was a son of the late Irving and Marie Holzer. Personal: Bob proudly was a Captain and served as a navigator in the Air Force. He lived in Oxford for the last nine years, having moved from Somerset , NJ . He was a research chemist specializing in electron microscopy for National Starch and Chemical Co., Manville , NJ . He retired in 1995, after 30 years of service. Later in his life he was realtor with VanSyckel ERA in Bridgewater . He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Brooklyn College and earned his PhD. in geology from Rutgers University . He had a passion for mineral collecting, and fly fishing, including tying his own flies and making his own rods. Memberships: Robert was a member and past president of both Franklin Township and Washington Rotary Clubs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Mercy Council, where he earned his 4th degree and was a past grand knight. He also was a member of the Toastmasters Organization from Somerset . He was a friend and volunteer of the Rutgers Geology Museum , a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Bob volunteered at the Pequest Fish Hatchery, educating the youth. He also was a volunteer for the Oxford Election Board. Survivors: His loving wife Marilyn; a daughter Margaret "Missy" Holzer of Somerset; five sons, Robert and his wife Debra of North Plainfield, NJ, Michael and his wife Brigett of NC, Raymond and his wife Cara of Somerset, Brian Stocker and his wife Rebecca of CA, and Sean Stocker and his wife Marka of MN; a sister Ethel Sebastian of CT; ten grandchildren, Eric, Noah, Kelby, Bria, Matthew, Landen, Karlee, Stefen, Sawyer and Stasha. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary, in 1991. Services: Visitation will be held 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue , Washington . The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 127 Broad Street , Washington , with Father Robert Christe-Troutman officiating. Burial will be in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery , Wrightstown , NJ . Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
