When a loved one passes only the good parts of their lives are to be spoken of. In my brother's case - that's all there was! He was truly the most loving, kind and gentle man one could ever hope to meet. He had his life in order for all the years I have known my brother Leo; God, family, country and everyone else that he came in contact with. He so loved and served well the veterans and their families through the American Legion. This was his passion. We are happy for you Leo, and can just imagine God saying " You are welcomed Leo, my good and faithful servant. Come your family is waiting for you." For myself, you have been the older brother that everyone wishes they had. I will miss you dear, but not for long. I love you much and I know that because you have entered the fullness of life, you are with us now more than ever!❤ Love Pauline

Leo Becker was a truly good man - something very rare today. I met Leo 34 years ago when I was a reporter for The News of Belvidere. Leo was the historian for American Legion Post 131 and the county Veterans' Interment supervisor. He always looked out for his fellow veterans. Together we searched for the unmarked grave of John Dolan, a Civil War sailor, and once we found found the grave, Leo got a government grave stone for Dolan in the Belvidere Catholic Cemetery. Leo asked me to help him complete the government application for a marker for Henry Church in the Belvidere Cemetery. Church served in the Civil War in the Confederate Army and later the Union Army.
In the 1990s, Leo became the father of the Warren County War Memorial, which honors Warren County's veterans who died in active service and lists the names of our honored dead from World War 1 through Operation Desert Storm. Leo rallied members of veterans' organisations and started fundraising efforts to make the memorial a reality. Leo worked to get a well-deserved Bronze Star medal for Jesse Dalrymple, a Warren County native who was was shot down and became a prisoner of war during World War 2. Leo also worked to get recognition for Civil War Medal of Honor recipient Henry Crocker, of Washington.
To Mary and the Becker family, I give my heart-felt condolences. I shall miss Leo very much.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to the Becker family. Leo was a kind, caring, compassionate, community minded patriot. I met Leo when I joined Post 131 in 1984. He was so welcoming to a new member especially since I was a WAVE , which gave us an instant bond. Over the years we became close and our families attended various events together, including the legion convention in Wildwood. He was always a wealth of information and willing to help whenever he could. In the early nineties after discussing starting a color guard for the Post Leo was the man behind the scenes that got us started. We practiced behind the legion with our drills. I attended in the beginning only to take pictures but he soon convinced me to join the squad, which I could do since I was a veteran. We attended several parades annually and in 1999 our color guard won Senior Post Color Guard at the NJ State legion convention parade. Leo could not have been more proud of us.
In 1996 Leo again had a vision to build a War Memorial for veterans in Warren County who were killed when serving their country from WWI through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He contacted around 30-40 people throughout the county in all areas not just veterans. Meetings were held, fundraising was discussed and committees were set up to proceed with his vision. So by November 11, 1997 we held the groundbreaking ceremony and on November 11, 1998 we unveiled the memorial during a ceremony. Several hundred residents and elected officials attended this event. We affectionately referred to Leo as the Godfather of the War Memorial.
Leo was also one of four original members who helped charter The American Legion, Carl D. Archer Post 528 in White Twp.
Leo will be missed not only by his family but all of us in his legion family. His shy boyish grin and that twinkle in his eye will be forever in my heart.
I want to wish my fellow sailor Leo 'Fair winds and following seas'. As the motto of the Navy-not for self but for country with the values of honor, commitment and courage which we learned in boot camp-sums up what kind of man he was. You will be missed but always carried in my heart.
Milly Rice, Post 528 Adjutant,
WC War Memorial Secretary and most of all, your friend.

No one can overestimate your love for this country and your willingness to serve faithfully. But how precious your heart for the family God gave you!!! How you served all of us! I can never remember a time when, upon seeing you, you didn't inquire how everyone was doing. Not just to spark a conversation, but out of real concern, wanting only the best for all of us. It was evident that other's struggles weighed heavy on your heart and I imagine there was much you wrestled with...with this large family, in this ever changing world. Even in these final days you were asking about Dan. I know your faith was the foundation of all you believed and all you strived to be-how blessed we all are for having had the honor of sharing this life with you. So grateful for your gentleness, your love, your example, your faith and the joy you brought to so many. In glory now, you reap the Blessings of a life lived in and for His love! Thank you Uncle Leo for the many ways you have touched all of our lives! How comforting to know that the joy of heaven is now yours! Love, Dianna
