Obituary of Lorraine Ann Ruszczyk

Lorraine A Ruszczyk, 69, of Richmond, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on March 15, 2020. She was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, to the late Jeanne (Baron) and Edward P Ruszczyk. She graduated in 1969 from Warren Hills Regional High School and received her BA from Madison College and her Masters from JMU. Lorraine worked as a teacher and elementary counselor for 29 years, serving in Virginia, Maine, Vermont, and West Virginia, spending 13 years as an elementary counselor with Henrico County Public Schools, VA (1989-2002). Lorraine also worked for United Way Services, VA Department of Social Services, University of Richmond, Target, and Ukrops following her teaching career. She had been working as a Vision Therapy Technician for Dr. Alan Toler, Optometrist, since 2009. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Ashland, VA and was a devout Christian. She was most proud of her family and friends and adored her grand nieces and nephews. She also doted on her cat, Vada, who she adopted in September 2014. Lorraine is survived by a sister, Marilyn Szot and her husband Nick, nephews, Ryan McCormick and his wife, Marissa, Justin Szot and his wife Jessica, Colin McCormick and his fiancé Heather, and Josh Szot. Grandnieces Lilyana, Cecelia and Francesca and grandnephews Quinn and Jameson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Jeanne McCormick and a brother, Edward Ruszczyk. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday July 18, 2020 from 10-11:30 am at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ. 07882. A Celebration of Life Memorial will follow at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Washington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine's name to St. Ann's Church, 105 South Snead St. Ashland VA 23005 or any animal shelter of your choice.
