Cyrus was a treasure to us all. I miss seeing him at the Herb farm, and at local Chinese restaurants.

My condolences to the friends and family of Cyrus on his passing. I've never met Cy but I know him in a way from the stories of his friend, and from the beautiful lemon smell of Cy's Sunburst Lemon Crispum Geranium, one of my favorite herbs. He made such a great impact in the hort world, but also in people's hearts. I'll think of him often each time the Cy's Sunburst gently greets my senses to say hello.

Dear Louise and David,
My sympathy to you and your family.
I was just talking about Cyrus a few days ago when my husband and I visited a local nursery that sells horsetail plants. I worked at Well Sweep from spring through Christmas in 2004 and vividly remember Cyrus demonstrating that horsetail makes a good nail file.
Working at the farm was a wonderful experience. I learned so much from all of you. I will always treasure the memory of quiet, peaceful days punctuated by the noise of contented chickens, the lovely feel of the breeze on a hot summer day as I worked in the fields, the reward of seeing neat rows of well-weeded and tended pots at the end of a day, and the joy of lunch in the greenhouse on a cold day when the scent of dirt and new plants filled the air.
It was hard work but it was magical.

Dear Hyde Family,
I am so honored and thankful for Mr. Hyde! He had been a fixure in my life because he nutured his plants with Love. He had the fortitude and courage to develope Well Sweep!! It was 1973 when I started to go to Well Sweep and enjoy and learn. Mr. Hyde made my life exciting because he had true passion for what He did. It felt like he was talking to his children. I was inspired. I went on to become a Chartered Herbalist and it is because of him! I trust he is with the Lord and on Angels wings in heavenly peace. God Bless you all!!
Sincerely, Korrie ( Lois) Adams

About 23 years ago I took my sorority sisters, from The Lehigh Valley Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Kappa, to Well-Sweep Herb Farm for a tour. Cy was the perfect guide. Even the experienced gardeners among us learned a great deal, especially about Asian Herbs. I'm rather late, this year, in making my annual pilgrimage to Well-Sweep, but do have it planned for next week. I expect Cy's spirit will be there among the gentle breeze, the cackling of his prized chickens and the myriad fragrances of the scented geraniums, the reason for my first visit in October of 1994 and still my passion. Thank you, Cy!

I grew up working at Well Sweep Herb Farm. I would walk there and back from my home. I have always had an interest and a longing for history, culture, and knowledge. Some of that was imparted to me from Cy and Louise. I love that house, that spiral staircase.. the warm kitchen where I would log my hours....and I learned about period correct paint colors and garden design. I filled many a bag of pot pourri while listening to a ghost story or two which made it really hard run/walking home! And when I'm cooking in present day, I use the technique I learned at Well Sweep to tie my bouquet garni. One of my fondest memories is Snicker pulling us in the winter sleigh....Thank you for all the memories and enrichment you bestowed on me. R.I.P. CTH.

Condolences to the Hyde family at this sad time with the passing of Cyrus. I have heard so many good things about Cy through his great friend Alan Russell, at Russell Gardens Wholesale. Alan always spoke highly of Cyrus and his horticultural knowledge, contributions to the plant world, and the chickens with the greatest long tails. More like, Cy's contributions to humanity. A deep void has been left with the passing of Cyrus, but he did make the greatest mark in the plant world and to all of the people his kindness touched.

My sincere condolences to the Hyde family. Mr. Hyde gave me my fist job at age 12 taking care of his beloved chickens. During those 2 summers, I learned so much about the chickens and other farm animals. Cyrus was so generous with his time and knowledge, I consider myself very fortunate for that opportunity and will always remember that time fondly. What an incredible person. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to the Hyde family.
Mr Cy, as I affectionately called him, was one of the kindest people I have ever met. His smile was infectious. His love of nature and life were abundant. He will be sorely missed.

So Sorry for your loss. I remember Cyrus well. My grand mother,Berdan, lived across the street in Totowa Borough. My mother was Ruth Berdan Tuschmann. We would visit every time I went to see my grandmother. I remember his horse very well. I always loved horses.I think I might still have a picture of that horse. I also remember the geese chasing us, and the many kittens that were always around. And how cool it always was in her lower basement room What great memories. . Sorry I never kept in touch. God bless you and your family, Arlene Tuschmann Novak

Dear Aunt Louise, David, Holly, and Mark,
I was so sorry to hear of Cy's passing. What a beautiful tribute you wrote about him, about his connections with others and wanting to get to know people from around the world. I did always feel that he genuinely cared and was interested in me. My first memory is from being 5 years old when I stayed with you all for 2 weeks. I remember Cy asking me if I wanted some candy and sneaking me some - often! I remember him letting me feed the chickens and I'll always hear the sounds of roosters crowing and think of your farm. I remember visiting the farm after I had met Nico and Cy giving us a tour (even with so much work to be done - he seemed to always make time for visitors!) and smelling so many different herbs- in particular, pineapple sage, lemon verbena, jasmine, rosemary, lavender, and all the scented geraniums. I remember walking through a field and he could identify different plants and weeds and what they could be used for and being so amazed by that. He liked that Nico loves gardening and that he could share his passion with someone who was so genuinely interested. I'll always remember Cy's dancing at our wedding and the smile on his face! After our wedding he took our single cut white roses (first gifts to one another) home with him and was able to root one of them and turn it into a rose bush! We thought that was amazing! I don't think I'll ever meet anyone who knew and loved flowers and plants as much as he did. I will think of him as I care for my Meyer Lemon tree that came from Well Sweep Herb farm. I plan to continue to learn and identify and appreciate new plants and their uses in Cy's honor. Our UU church had a "flower service" today, and I couldn't help but think how perfect it was in honoring Cy!
Thinking of you all and sending my love!
