Obituary of Doris Bry-Nildsen

Doris Ellen Bry-Nildsen (nee Okerson) 91, of Washington, NJ died peacefully on July 31, 2016 at her home. Born on September 21, 1924 in Wall Township, NJ Doris graduated from Manasquan high school, North Texas State Teachers College and The Julliard Conservatory. She was a professional singer in NY during the 40's & 50's and toured Europe with the Robert Shaw Chorale. She made Washington, NJ her home in 1960 when she married Martin Bry-Nildsen Jr. She became a mother & homemaker and was active in the Washington Woman's Club and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She was co-founder of her alumni chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and served as Treasurer for over 30 years. She is survived by her children Karen McCormick & her husband Patrick of Washington, NJ, Christopher Brynildsen & his wife Laurie of Port Murray, NJ, and stepson Martin Brynildsen III & his wife Karen of Bethlehem, PA. Her Granddaughter Erica Brynildsen as well as 7 other adult grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, also survive her. She was pre-deceased by her husband Martin Bry-Nildsen Jr., her parents Harold & Emma Okerson, her brothers Lynden & Jackson Okerson, and her stepson Andrew Bowers Brynildsen. Friends and family may pay their respect on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 127 Broad Street, Washington, NJ 07882 A Memorial Service will be celebrated immediately following at 11:00 AM at the church.
