Obituary of Jane M Hobson

Jane Hobson of Stanton, New Jersey passed away on July 18. Jane was a longtime fancier, handler, and successful breeder of Rottweilers under the Von Hobson prefix. Known for her trademark hat and infectious smile, Jane was always kind, generous with her time and knowledge, and a friend to everyone. Jane owned Rottweilers for over 40 years acquiring her first show dog in 1982. She began attending match shows a few years later and the rest is history. Jane's Rottweilers received the highest awards; breeder/owner/handled to All-Breed Best In Show wins. Jane was most proud of "Ox," BIS BISS CH Overnight Express Von Hobson, the only All-Breed Best In Show winning Rottweiler to also win the National Sieger under a German judge. Jane believed a stable temperament was one of the most important facets of her beloved Rottweilers. Through this she became involved in Schutzhund; Schutzhund training focuses on tracking, obedience and protection work. Jane successfully trained multiple dogs to Schutzhund titles. Jane's talent and connection to her dogs was impossible to miss. In 1989, a well-known Bullmastiff breeder, Mimi Einstein, approached Jane and asked her to handle her dogs. That was only the beginning of a very successful Handling career. Jane handled mostly Working Dogs but was also often seen in the Rhodesian Ridgeback ring. Alongside the dogs she loved so much, she achieved All-Breed Best In Show wins on quite a few other Working Dogs. Jane was an incredible mentor to so many. She taught a Handling Class in her area that was always full; some nights it was standing room only. She took great pleasure in teaching new exhibitors her tips and tricks as well as following her students' progress and success. Jane always had time for everyone – whether it was handling advice or just a quick chat. Jane was a brave, strong lady committed to her faith, her family and her friends. She was honest to a fault but just as helpful and supportive to anyone and everyone she crossed paths with. "Jane Baby" or "GI Jane" as she was known to her friends will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Jane is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Russell B. Hobson III.; a sister, Patricia Gabarra and the many friends she met through the years in the AKC community. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday July 26, 2023 from 4-6 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Jane's life will begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
