Obituary of Edward Nagy

Edward Nagy 86, of Port Murray, NJ passed away suddenly on May 9, 2014 at Hackettstown Hospital. Born: on November 8, 1927 at the family home in Oxford, NJ to the late Joseph and Susan "Varga" Nagy. Personal: Prior to moving to Port Murray Ed was a lifelong resident of Oxford, NJ. He graduated from Washington high school class of 1945. Ed joined the US Army after high school and became a weapons instructor during WWII. After the War he achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant in the Army National Guard of Washington and Phillipsburg. Early in his life Ed worked in the Oxford mines. He later became an owner and real estate agent for Rainbow Realty in Washington. Ed retired from Prudential Insurance Co in 1988. He was a founding and honorary member of the Oxford volunteer fire department in 1945. He also performed in minstrel shows as a fund raiser for the fire department. He was a past Mayor and Police Commissioner of Liberty Township. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 131 in Belvidere. Ed was a 50 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Musconetcong Lodge #42 and he was a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America Warren County Lodge #14. He and Joyce enjoyed many trips with friends, John and Maria Matusewicz. He was an avid hunter and he cherished time spent with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors: His loving wife of 33 years Joyce "Luster" Nagy, six sons Edward Nagy and his wife Belinda, Gary Nagy, Thomas Nagy and his wife Karen, James Nagy and his companion Sandra, William Williams and his wife Amy and Martin Williams; eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by two brothers Nicholas and Joseph Nagy and a sister Irene Hahn. Services: Friends and family may call on Wednesday May 14, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday May 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Oxford with full military honors. Memorials: Donations may be made in Ed's name to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St. Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
