Obituary of Theodore Maginnis

Theodore "Ted" Maginnis, 86 of Washington, NJ, husband of Grace Maginnis Passed away peacefully on March 1, 2014 with his family by his side. Born: January 26, 1928 in Washington, N.J to the late Herbert & Anna Maginnis. Personal: Ted spent 11 years in the Washington school district transferring to Allentown, PA where he graduated from Allentown High in 1945. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served on 3 ships doing navigational duties and rescue missions in the North Atlantic. Ted owned and operated Maginnis Friendly Service Station for a number of years in Washington. He joined Somerset Tire Service in 1964, serving on the original STS Board of Trustees. He managed the Washington store for 25 years. Ted was a member of the Washington B.P.O.E Elks lodge #1563 for 40 years. He served 2 terms as Exalted Ruler, managed the Elks midget baseball and youth dances. Ted and his wife Grace spent the winter months in Florida for the past 20 years. During that time he spent 18 years singing with the "Harbor City Harmonizers" in Melbourne Florida. He also belonged to the Barefoot Bay Golf Association & Boat Club. Ted was a 20 year member, singing & performing with the Hunterdon Harmonizers in Flemington, NJ. He was a member of Sts. Phillip and James over 50 club, the Easton YMCA and AARP in Phillipsburg, NJ. Ted was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, NJ. Survivors: He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Grace; two sons, Brian Maginnis and his wife Isabel and Todd Maginnis; two daughters, Colleen Barcik and Trudy Maginnis; and 5 grandchildren; Jesse and Keri Barcik, Blair Maginnis and his wife Jacqueline, and Jordan and Luke Maginnis. He is predeceased by 2 brothers Larry and Herbert Maginnis, 2 sisters, Thelma Vinson and Alethea Baker and his 6th grandchild Jeremy. Services: Friends and family may call on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 1-5 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882 (908-689-0119). Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 40 East Church St., Washington, NJ 07882.
