Obituary of Louise G. Lunger

Louise G. Lunger, 73, of Washington, NJ, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ. Born: Aug. 29, 1931 in Perth Amboy, NJ, a daughter of the late George Housman and Gertrude "Lovie" Hargreaves. Personal: Her husband, Truman R. "Bunny", died Jan. 19, 1996. They were married Sept. 11, 1954 and resided in Port Colden. She was a licensed hairdresser and owned and operated Milady's Beauty Salon in Washington in 1970's through the early 1980's. She also worked at Fashion Bug in Phillipsburg for several years and most recently at the jewelry counter at J.C. Penny in the Phillipsburg Mall. As a young girl, she worked for the family business, Hargreaves Sweet Shop in Washington, where she met her late husband. She was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School and a graduate of Churchman's Business School and Empire Beauty School. She had a renowned reputation that went beyond local boundaries as a gourmet cook and fine baker and was known as the "Chef" among her family, friends and club members. She organized and catered numerous Eastern Star banquets and fund raisers. Memberships: She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washington, the United Methodist Women, the Washington Women's Club, the Washington Junior Women's Club, the Hackettstown Soroptomist International and served as president of the former Belvidere Soroptomist club. Mrs. Lunger was a 53 year member of the Washington Chapter #136 Order of the Eastern Star, having served the Chapter as Worthy Matron on five different occasions. Mrs. Lunger was past District Deputy, a past Grand Representative to Idaho, a past Grand Bearer of the Eastern Star Flag and served on many local and state committees. Survivors: a son, William S. of Washington. Services: 11 a.m. Friday in the Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home on West Washington Avenue in Washington. The service will be co-officiated by Pastor Douglas Cowie and Reverend Douglas Spencer. Call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to time of service in the funeral home. An Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Lunger will be buried beside her late husband at the Musconetcong Cemetery in Hampton.
