Obituary of Glen Francis MacArthur
Glen F. MacArthur, 72, of Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2025.
Born on March 1, 1953, on Staten Island, NY, Glen was the son of the late Arnold and Joan (Doyle) MacArthur. He was raised in Perth Amboy, NJ, where he left High School as a Junior to enlist in the United States Army, graduating from Signal School, which helped foster a lifelong passion for Telecommunications. He served during the Vietnam War, stationed in both S. Korea and Vietnam as a member of the Signal Corps.
Following his military service, Glen embarked on a forty-plus year career in telecommunications/ computer programming/software development, starting at United Telephone Systems (Clinton, NJ) in 1973 as a Switching Engineer. After a few stops in the 1980s, he ultimately settled at Bellcore/Telcordia Technologies (Piscataway, NJ) for the majority of his career, ending up as a Director/Principal Engineer. He and his team at Telcordia were instrumental in developing the nation's first VoIP Network, for Sprint. Glen retired from Ericsson in 2017, working in Applied Research, on various US Government Projects (DOD, US Senate, NASA/JPL, and policy work with Johns Hopkins Advanced Physics Lab).
Glen loved to code and learn computer programming languages on his own. He co-authored (2) industry publications and is the holder of (2) US Patents in IP Telephony/VoIP technology.
Later in life, Glen was proud of earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Thomas Edison State University (NJ), graduating with High Honors.
He was a past member of the VFW and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
A true history enthusiast, Glen had a passion for reading and a deep love for the Boston Celtics. He cherished his time at the beach and, above all, valued the moments spent with his family.
Glen is survived by his sons; Michael MacArthur and Russell MacArthur and his wife Dr. Jinita Patel-MacArthur; his treasured grandchildren, Liam and Lila, and his sister, Michele Malone. In addition to his parents, Glen was predeceased by his sister, Renee Reebe.
All services will be held privately. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Warren Hills Memorial Home.
