Obituary of Conrad K. Schaumberg

Conrad K. Schaumberg, 94, of Belvidere, NJ, and formerly of Chatham, NJ, passed away on April 16, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ. A longtime resident of Chatham, NJ who later made his home in Belvidere, Conrad lived a life defined by service, family devotion, and community engagement. Born November 25, 1930, in Orange, NJ, Conrad was the son of the late Frank R. Schaumberg and Kathryn K. Hamilton. After graduating from Millburn High School, he attended Bucknell University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business, commerce, and finance. His college years were enriched by his participation on the football team and membership in the Sigma Chi fraternity. Following graduation, Conrad served his country with the Army and was stationed at Fort Knox until receiving an honorable discharge as Corporal in 1954. While residing in Chatham, Conrad became a member of the United Presbyterian Church. Upon relocating to Belvidere, his warm smile, heartfelt humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand quickly endeared him to neighbors. He embraced his new community by joining the Country View Village Activity Board and becoming an active member at the United Presbyterian Church in Belvidere. Conrad's dedication to service was interwoven throughout every chapter of his life. In his early years as a father, he volunteered as an assistant scout leader and baseball coach for his children. Later, he became an avid volunteer with the Miller-Keystone Blood Bank, frequently traveling throughout Warren County and beyond to support their life-saving mission. His commitment to public safety led him to become a respected member of C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team), where he regularly participated in local community events. When not serving others, Conrad found joy in fishing, reading, gardening, collecting model trains, playing bocce ball, and studying American history. He is survived by his children, Steven "Andy" Schaumberg and his wife Marybeth, June Morrison and her husband Larry, and James Schaumberg and his wife Maria; as well as his daughter-in-law, Lorri Schaumberg. Conrad was a cherished grandfather to Travis, Allison, Steven, Michael, Todd, Nicole, Jessica, Erica, Brian, and Christopher, and proud great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, John "Sandy" Schaumberg, Frank Schaumberg, Larry Schaumberg, Lorraine Steen, and Kathryn Maze. Conrad was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean Schaumberg, who passed in 2000; his son, Theodore Schaumberg; and his daughter, Susan Schaumberg. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882. A memorial service celebrating Conrad's life will be held at the funeral home at 3:30 PM. Inurnment at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ, will be held privately.
