Obituary of Richard J Maguire Sr

Richard J. Maguire Sr., 83, a lifelong resident of Asbury, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on April 8, 2025.

Born on May 18, 1941, at the Old Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ, Richard was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Sadie (Deemer) Maguire.

Richard spent many years working at the Asbury Graphite Mill before later joining his brother-in-law at Apple Plumbing & Heating. He was a man of many interests and a true outdoorsman—he enjoyed hunting whitetail deer, fishing for trout in Warren County, and exploring the local backroads and reservoir in search of wildlife.

A longtime fan of stock car racing at Flemington Race Track, Richard also found joy in simpler pleasures—bowling, playing softball in his youth, and taking family trips to Atlantic City and Seaside Heights. He never passed up a chance to try his luck at the casino or with scratch-off lottery tickets.

Above all, Richard will be remembered for his love of family and the quiet strength he brought to those around him.

He is survived by his children: Cathy Maguire, Jackie and Tim Troutman, and Richard Jr and Alex Maguire; and his many beloved grand and great- grandchildren.

Richard was predeceased by his wife, Mary Maguire and Siblings Arthur "Duke" Maguire Jr., Robert "Huff" Maguire, Geraldine "Peg" Peters, Betty "Jake" Pfeiffer, Shirley "Short" Werkheiser, JoAnn Kinney, and Nancy "Nance" Goerner.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A funeral service celebrating Richard's life will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Cremation will be held privately.
