Obituary of Thomas Van Horn
Thomas Van Horn, 88, a lifelong resident of Washington, NJ passed away on November 4, 2024 at St. Luke's Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Thomas was born on March 31, 1936 in Phillipsburg, NJ to the late Willard and Florence (Van Horn) Freeman.
He was a graduate of Washington High School class of 1953. Thomas served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp for 22 years before his retirement in 1987 as a Staff Sargent. He later went on to work in the maintenance department at the Warren Hills Middle School. Thomas was always extremely physically fit and enjoyed the gym immensely. He also took great pride in his religion and his membership at the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. Thomas loved to travel with his family.
Thomas is survived by his siblings; Debra Franklin and her husband Willie and Shirley Coleman. He also leaves behind his cherished nieces; Kathy, Marie, Linda and Ashley and his beloved nephews; Bill, Alan, Justin, Timmy, Cole and Larry Jr. He also leaves behind his many loving great- nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Donna Freeman.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Yoneko Tamashiro, who passed in 2006, and his brothers; Larry W. Freeman and Richard Gary Freeman and brother-in-law, William Coleman.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 9:30-11:30 AM at Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Road, Washington, NJ 07882. A home going service, officiated by Rev. Joseph Gray, will take place at 11:30 in the church. Burial at Washington Cemetery will immediately follow.
