Obituary of Robert L. Dritschel
Robert L. Dritschel, 90, of Montpelier, VA and previously of Washington, NJ passed away on September 10, 2023, at home with family and friends by his side. Robert fought his battle against cancer for six long years. Despite spending many days in and out of the hospital, he never gave up. Throughout his entire journey, he worried more about his family than himself, always saying he was fine. He played many hands of poker with his grandchildren and told us all to never stop fighting whatever battle or illness we faced. He was loved by every nurse he met and made some strong bonds along the way with all of his caretakers. Although he did not have a voice for many years, he had the ability to make others smile and was thankful for those who were always there for him.
Robert, was born on March 25, 1933 in West New York, NJ to the late Michael and Mary Dritschel. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Port Reading, NJ. Robert loved going to the casino with his late wife Elsie regularly where they had many lucky visits ending in amazing meals at the Steakhouse. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert, also known as "Bobby" while working, was employed as the head timekeeper for many years for Sea Land Services in Port Elizabeth until his retirement in 1995. Robert's favorite past times were creating framed jigsaw puzzles for family and playing his slot machine games on his iPad.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Mary and her husband John, Susan and her husband Richard, and his sons; Ronald and his wife Claudia, and Robert and his wife Carolyn. He also leaves behind a son-in-law, Juan and 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by his loving wife Elsie who passed in 2014 and his daughter, Debra Ann and grandson Robert Edwin. He is also preceded in death by his brothers; Jack and Michael Dritschel.
