In our younger years, Les and I were good friends ... I loved Les dearly - and looked up to him like an older (2 yrs.) brother, but also a peer. Memories of Les include ...
* our teenage years in the Madison Heights Alliance Church Youth Group
* him teaching me to play the guitar, then including me in the leading of the group in singing
* one New Year’s Day morning when, after an all-niter Youth Group party, Les and I raced our cars out to my home in Shelby Township about 25 miles away (glad there were no cops along the way!)
* playing softball together - playing short-hop catch after it had rained - skipping the ball in the wet grass trying make the other miss the catch and hit him in the shin hard enough to leave a mark
* ping-pong, lots of it
* going with the Kleffmans to take Les to Toccoa Falls College for his first year - camping alongside a beautiful lake in old canvas tents, then joining Les at TFC the following year as a Freshman
* the morning after “the flood” at TFC in 1977 - praying that Les was still alive after the waters crashed through his level of the dorm, crying when Peggy and I found him, and then looking for / finding his car jammed nose-first into the side of a hill alongside the raging river
* having him as part of my wedding - he always affirmed Peggy’s and my relationship
* meeting Jean for the first time - thinking how cool she was and how blessed Les was to find her
* occasionally talking on the phone about being Pastors during the years that we were both in “the ministry”
* his HUGE smile, giggly laugh, gregarious personality, and deep relationship with Jesus.
When I was young I respected Les ... that respect never waned - even as both of us moved into our 60’s. I always read his Facebook posts as soon as I saw them (or when Peggy told me about them) - and always found them thought-provoking / faith strengthening.
Far more than anyone else, I look forward to seeing Jesus face to face when my stay in this life comes to an end, but I also look forward to sharing a big, crushing, exuberant hug with my friend.

Why does someone have to die to be remembered along with his family. Les always had strong faith in the Lord, a jovial laugh and a pleasant demeanor, probably acquired from his father and mother. Softball city and basketball, nice memories for me at the Madison Heights CMA church. And, Laurel and I loved his mother's Christmas cakes. So celebrate in heaven Les, you arrived there before us. And God bless your family; as Tiny Tim would say.

I met Les while at TFC and enjoyed many family get-togethers with the Kleffman's in Michigan and at Beulah Beach. I know he loved the Lord and is enjoying all of heaven (especially the music). I am praying for Les's family that they will experience the peace that passes all understanding. Beth Correll Vallier

I remember Les from our days at Madison Heights Alliance Church, coaching him in Basketball for several years and playing ping pong at our youth meeting with his Dad (Mr. K) camping at Kensington Park. Les Mother and Father was a part of my life in growing up, his sister Bonnie was so nice. I had many dinners at the Kleffmans home and always felt welcome. My prayers and sympathy will be with the extended family. I know Les is now speaking with his Mother and Father.

Like Debbie, we have fond memories of Les from Madison Heights Alliance Church, including playing/watching church softball league games; we had just recently reconnected over social media. Les and his whole family were so encouraging and loved the Lord. Our prayers and sympathy will be with the extended family.

I was saddened to hear of Les’s passing. I have such fond memories of the Kleffman Family from our years together at the Madison Heights Alliance Church in the 1970’s. Les sent me the nicest message after my husband passed away in 2020, even though I had not seen him in years. May you Rest In Peace Les. My prayers & condolences to Jean and the entire family during this sad time.

We were surprised and sorry to hear of Les' passing [Covid} into the Lord's Presence but are comforted that death here on earth is not the end but really ... only the beginning in Christ's presence. The angels choirs welcomed him home even though we will miss his presence here on earth. First impressions of Les' coming onto YFC Staff working in East Area Campus Life [eastside/northside of Detroit], "WOW! He has a winning smile, gorgeous blue eyes and loves the Lord...Some gal is going to be lucky/blessed!" And Les had a laugh that always cheered me when he worked with my husband, Jerry Petillon. Les worked hard and learned the ropes eventually running his own clubs and always happy to help. His commitment to Christ and to the kids was evidenced in the amount of time he spent on both, Christ and the kids. Then he went on to pastoral ministry and we were surprised when all of us [Pauline & Jean & family's] ended up in New Jersey. We are praying for the whole family.
Love to Jean and Curtis, Kristen & Kaitlyn, Pauline

Claudia and I are so saddened to hear of Les passing into the kingdom of God. Our memories are many from several years together at Derwood Alliance church in Maryland.. our kids, Elizabeth and Josh thru church youth group and family events. Les and I did have a special relationship for that time together, and I remember well many conversations on life, parenting, worship….
Our love and God’s grace to all,
Much love, Claudia and Mark McCabe

So shocked and sad to hear of Les’ passing. He had a heart of gold. Les served as a worship leader at Cornerstone Church in Easton for a number of years. I was blessed to serve with him. He loved his family and his Savior and served both with all his heart. God speed Les! You will be missed, until we meet again. Lord grant your peace to this family as they deal with this huge loss. In many ways, I always felt that Les was my “brother from another mother.” We shared much over the years. Attendance at Washington Alliance, working and golfing at Apple Mountain and then golfing at Harkers. I came to know Jean and his children with great affection. Les was so proud of their accomplishments and loved them greatly. He will be missed, but his place in heaven is secure. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Many memories... the highlight was a golf week in TX staying at a townhouse on Lake Conroe...golfing in the area each day till we couldn't walk anymore and then a big steak in Montgomery...then to Houston during a rain day to the space centre. It was quite the adventure and oh yeah, in the middle of the NBA playoffs which Les had to watch when possible. Many laughs at our incredible shots during these rounds...
We also had many chats at the Church about music for Worship services...me wanting to explore more modern songs and he tempering a bit however, he would relent eventually...sometimes.
