Obituary of Edward C. Swahn
Edward C. Swahn, Jr., 83, formerly of Washington, Knowlton, NJ and Smithtown, NY passed away peacefully on February 27, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center.
Edward was born on August 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward and Patricia (Boyd) Swahn, Sr. and predeceased by his brother Charles.
Edward graduated from St. Leonard's Academy, Brooklyn, NY in 1956. He then served proudly in the US Air Force. Returning from service to his parents' home in Centereach, NY, he met his wife Genevieve McAuley (predeceased) while they were both teaching catechism classes. Married in 1962, they raised an exuberant family of eight children eventually moving from Smithtown, NY to Knowlton Township, NJ in 1979.
For over thirty years, Edward worked in the early computer and manufacturing sectors before losing his sight to illness in 1987. He then began working as a volunteer advocate for the blind and seniors. After his wife's passing in 2007, he lived with several of his sons up and down the East Coast enjoying the role of live-in grandpa.
Edward is survived by his large loving family including daughters, Catherine (Swahn) Boccard, Lori Swahn and Patricia (Swahn) McIlreavy and his sons-in laws Paul Boccard and Colin McIlreavy; His sons, John Swahn, Thomas Swahn, Michael Swahn, Paul Swahn and Timothy Swahn and his daughter- in-laws Debbe Swahn and Judie Swahn; and his grandchildren Will, Tricia, Eric, Tara, Christopher, Natasha, Benjamin, Michael, Brie, Conor, Kieran and Shea.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday March 4, 2021 in two sessions 2-4 and from 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. 200 Carlton Ave. Washington, NJ. Interment will follow the mass in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
