Obituary of Velma M Burns

Velma M. Burns, 90, of New Village, NJ passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Warren hospital on October 18, 2016. She was born in Dubois, PA on November 17, 1925 to the late Bessie M. Tubbs and stepfather Walter W. McCormick. As a young girl Velma relocated to Port Colden, NJ. She graduated from Washington High School class of 1943. Velma met and married the love of her life Thomas F. Burns on June 22, 1947. Velma was a homemaker and she worked at the Hunterdon Developmental Center, retiring in 1987. She enjoyed crocheting until the day before she passed away. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a past den mother for the Cub Scouts and was a past member of the Franklin Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters Diana Crown and Eileen Burns. A son Michael Burns. Grandchildren Shane Crown, Jeremy Burns, Cheryl Preim and her husband Kurt. Great Grandchildren Julie Crown and Alannah Burns. Sister In-law Doris Fulmer. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Thomas in 1987. 2 sons Steven Burns and Martin Burns. 2 brothers Melvin Black and Don Black and a Son in-law Charles Crown. Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday October 22, 2016 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated immediately following at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Stewartsville Presbyterian Cemetery in Greenwich, NJ In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Velma's name to the Franklin Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 43, Broadway, NJ 08808 OR the Frenchtown United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home.
