Obituary of Henry A Whitney

Henry “Hank” Whitney, 87, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2016. He was born on March 1, 1929 in Washington, NJ to the late Arthur and Emma Whitney. Hank was a lifelong resident of the Warren County area. He grew up in Washington. He attended Washington High School until his family moved to Belvidere. He graduated from Belvidere High School in 1946. He joined the newly formed US Air Force and served proudly during the Allied Occupation following WWII from 1946-1949. Hank retired after 37 working as a Foreman for Jersey Central Power & Light in Washington, NJ. After retirement he owned and operated Whitney Sharpening Services and he was a school bus driver for Scott Bus Company in Belvidere, NJ. He and his loving wife Barbara (Van Kirk) celebrated their 65 wedding anniversary in November 2015. Hank was a member of the American Legion in Belvidere Post 131. He was a past member of the Belvidere Masonic Lodge, past school board member and a past member of the Belvidere Ambulance Squad. Hank enjoyed old cars and going to car shows. He enjoyed woodworking, history and watching NASCAR. Above all Hank loved his family and cherished time spent with them. He is survived by his soulmate Barbara; a son Steven Whitney and his wife Holly; a daughter Sharon Whitney Rahman and her husband Ata; four grandchildren -- Jared Whitney, wife Marisa, Jillian Pearson, husband Eric, James Whitney, wife Ellen, and Zachariah Rahman and six great granddaughters. A graveside service celebrating Hank’s life will be held on Thursday March 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hank’s name to the Heartland Hospice, 881 Marcon Blvd., Suite 3700, Allentown, PA 18109, or a charity of your choice.
