Obituary of Mary L Kovach

Mary Louise (Lou) Hourigan Kovach, 92, of Washington, NJ passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Mary was born on January 10, 1924 in Rockaway Township, NJ to the late Joseph Hourigan and Maude Miller. Her husband Paul Kovach passed in 1994. Mary worked at Macy’s in the Rockaway Mall as a sales clerk for many years. Prior to moving to Washington in 2008, she lived in Wharton, NJ where she graduated from Wharton High school class of 1942. Mary was a devote Catholic. She was baptized in St. Mary’s church in Wharton, NJ and was a lifelong parishioner there. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Rosary society since 1964. She devoted her life to helping others, driving for Meals on Wheels from 1973 – 2008 and working as an after care aide at St. Mary’s Catholic School from 2000- 2008. She loved to do needlepoint and created many baby blankets for family and friends. She took care of her great-granddaughter, Samantha most of her life. She loved her family and treasured the moments with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Mary was loved by everyone who knew her. Mary is survived by her loving granddaughter Rebecca Whisner and her husband David, great-granddaughter Samantha Studley and sister Charlotte Szoke. In addition to her husband Paul Kovach, she is preceded in death by her daughter Elizabeth Bagdan, 2 brothers Joseph (Happy) and John (Jack) Hourigan, and sisters Betty Riker and Pat Hourigan. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 10:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M at the Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 12:00 P.M at the funeral home.
