Obituary of Mercy E Smolenski

Mercy "Smokey" Smolenski, 91, a lifelong resident of the Washington, NJ area passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015 at Golden Living Center in East Stroudsburg, PA. Mercy was born on May 26, 1924 in Hampton, NJ to the late Stewart and Elizabeth Housel. Mercy graduated from Hampton High School class of 1942. She worked for the Pohatcong Hosiery Mill in Washington and the Hardwick Hosiery Mill in Belvidere, NJ. She retired from Oakwood Lanes in 1994. Her loving husband Joseph Smolenski passed away in 1984. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 346. Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2540 in East Stroudsburg, PA. She was a member of the Young at heart club and a member of the Warren County Nutrition and Senior program. She is survived by her loving daughter Elaine Roberts and her companion Roger Hauser; Grandchildren Jeffrey Roberts and Jamie Roberts; Great Granddaughter Kailee Summers. In addition to her husband Mercy was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Ames and Gladys Jocsak. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday October 26, 2015 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated immediately following at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton, NJ.
