Obituary of Elston Rushie Rush

Elston "Rushie" Rush 101, of Washington formally of Asbury, NJ and Feasterville, PA passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Warren Hospital on March 17, 2015. Born on January 2, 1914 in Asbury, NJ to the late Morris and Martha "Warman" Rush. Rushie graduated from Washington high school class of 1934. He joined the US Army in 1941. Rushie was a Tech Sergeant and attached to CO C 757 tank Battalion. He served as General Patton's personal tank mechanic. He served during WWII in General Patton's second armored division during the Africa Campaign. He later served in Patton's Seventh Army during the invasion of Sicily and in Patton's Third Army following the invasion of Normandy in 1944. After the war he married his late wife Hazel "Byerlee" Rush in 1945. He worked as a Sales supervisor for Giles & Ransone and later owned and operated Rush & Parker heavy construction equipment Company before retiring in 1983. He was the oldest living member of the Mansfield Masonic Lodge #36 in Washington, NJ serving for 72 years. He was a member of the Crescent Temple Shriners in Trenton, NJ since 1951. He was a member of the Pohatcong Memorial VFW Post 6701 in Washington and a Member of the American Legion Post 103 in Washington. He was also a member and active parishioner of the United Methodist Church in Washington, NJ He is survived by a Nephew Wesley Brook and nieces Candace Lewis, Shirley Wright and her husband Charles and Betty Gibson and her husband Bob; and many other nieces and nephews. Rushie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Hazel in 2011. Sisters Anna Yawger, Jesse Lewis, Nina Gardner and Muriel Brook. Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday March 28, 2015 from 9:30-11:00 AM at the Washington United Methodist Church. 116 E. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Masonic services will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. A Memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at the Stewartsville Presbyterian Cemetery in Stewartsville, NJ. Memorial donations may be made in Elston's name to Washington United Methodist Church. 116 E.
